She knew Lily's a sweet girl. She had watched her be kind and friendly to everyone whether she knows them or not. Always just watched her, sitting across the room and fantasizing about walking down the winding neighborhood roads together as best friends. Tulip's heard all about it. Now, up close, Lily's friendly red eyes stared into hers curiously.
Lily spoke first. "Hi, what's up?"
"Hello Lily, I know it's your birthday so I wanted to give you this as a present. It's a hairpin I made myself, I saw it (well, its materials) in the crafts store and it reminded me a lot of you. I hope this gift to you is the start of a blooming friendship and that we'll become the best of friends and take long walks through neighborhood talking and laughing about things like friends do and hang out all the time from now on," is not what Lemon said. Instead, the girl muttered a shy "happy birthday" and produced the barrette from her pocket.
Lily's eyes lit up immediately. She took the ladybug-shaped hairpin from Lemon's hand with the dignity of a newly appointed knight taking his sword from a king. She stood up, hugged Lemon without thinking (much to Lemon's surprise) and began affixing it to her hair, replacing the blue butterfly pin that was already there.
"Oh, thank you thank you thank you! Did you make this? It's so wonderful.. gosh, this is the best present ever!" Lily giggled with joy, taking out a pocket mirror to look at her new hairpin.
Lemon blushed and fiddled with her fingers, searching her mind for something to say.
