Leon sighed.

He was expected to return to headquarters for a mission report, but he supposed that wasn’t happening. Of course, he could sneak out, if he really wanted to…

“Man, I love sleepovers! This will be a lot of fun!” a classmate seated behind him said.

Well, it’s not like he wants to see his father. It could be dangerous to go out during this storm as well. With his augmented right eye, Leon scanned the bleachers for a familiar shade of pink, and quickly spotted his target sitting alone in the upper corner.

Approaching Lucille, he could hear her mumbling something incoherent. Her pink hair hung over one eye as the other stared at her lap. She seemed to be unaware of his presence, which meant he could unleash his awesome secret ultimate fighting technique upon her and kill her instantly, but (and this is arguably a worse outcome for Lucille) he decided to annoy her instead.

He slid into the space next to her. “Lucyyy!”

“What do you want, Lenny?” replied Lucille, continuing to stare down at the bleacher below.

“It’s Le–”

“I don’t care. Tell me what you want or shove off. And don’t call me Lucy.”

Leon looked at her, exaggerating a frown. “I was just gonna ask if you wanted to put our sleeping bags together,” he said, leaning over in an attempt to make eye contact. “Like a sleepover!”

“Like a what?”

“Like a sleepover!”

“Like a what?”

“A sleepover! Are you telling me you’ve never had a sleepover before?”

“A what?”

“A sleep–”

“I know what a sleepover is. And don’t be stupid, of course I’ve had one.”

This came as a genuine surprise to Leon. “Wait, really? With who?” How could she have had a sleepover with someone before he has?

“Your mom,” Lucille replied with a smirk, finally turning her head to make eye contact.

Leon returned her joke with only a blank stare. Usually he would say something annoying right now, but he seemed to have lost his enthusiasm. Lucille turned away again, dissatisfied with his apparent lack of reaction.

“Whatever,” she grunted, “do what you want with our bags. I’m not planning on sleeping here anyway.”

Leon’s eyes brightened up once more. “Yayyy!” he cheered, running off to get both their sleeping bags.
