Hours later, the lights in the gym shut off.

All of the students were now resting in or sitting atop their respective sleeping bags. The gym’s high windows that often blinded students with morning sunlight now revealed nothing but the dark clouds that currently loomed over the town.

Rain and overcast clouds were a common sight around here, but this was not a typical storm. Jet black clouds obscured the sky as local wildlife began to hide from the oncoming downpour. Soon, boiling hot drops of water will drip from the sky like tar and the air will become oppressively humid. Dark, hot, heavy fog forms, severely limiting one’s eyesight. These rare black storms can last for days, sometimes weeks, as the majority of rainfall evaporates upon hitting the ground, being recycled back into the massive downfall. All in all, it’s really not a good idea to be outside during one of these.

Leon began to feel drowsy. As chaotic as the storm outside may be, the pitter-pattering of rain always makes him tired. Taking a peek at his phone’s clock, it was around his bedtime as well. Looking around the room, he could make out only silhouettes of other students, indulging in their hushed conversations. The pink sleeping bag next to his yellow-black one remained empty.

“Is she really not gonna go to bed…?”

Well, even if she was, it wouldn’t be at 7:30 p.m. He wasn’t worried though, all he could think about was how inviting the inside of his sleeping bag looked. It beckoned him with the promise of comfort and warmth, and it seemed like it wouldn’t take no for an answer.
